The challenge

Our client, a Tribal Housing Authority serving Northwest communities, needed to develop a 5-year strategy to guide their future direction. The organization previously relied on a one-year plan, which limited its ability to develop and sustain funding beyond United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) support. As a result, it also faced challenges with organizational culture and leadership. The Executive Director and Tribal leadership sought to gather a group of over 30 people to define the organization’s strategic path and address challenges in culture and leadership.

The solution

After meeting with the Executive Director, Aspirant created a 3-day on-site workshop to align theorganization’s strategy and address conflicts and tough conversations. In the workshop, we collaborated with a large group to create the organization’s vision, update the mission statement, set strategic priorities, and establish goals for each business unit. To wrap up, we held a half-day session focused on fostering psychological safety and guiding difficult conversations in a productive, purposeful, and effective way.

The results

  • Defined the organization’s vision for the future and refreshed the mission statement
  • Identified strategic priorities to drive the organization towards achieving its vision
  • Developed goals for each strategic priority at the business unit level
  • Delivered just-in-time training on strategic planning processes and outcomes, psychological safety, and handling difficult conversations
  • Offered recommendations for implementing the strategic plan and improving organizational culture best practices
